DPSCS IIU Investigating Possible Inmate Homicide at WCI
Towson, MD (February 13, 2011)---The Internal Investigative Unit (IIU) of the Maryland Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services is on the scene of a possible inmate homicide at Western Correctional Institution (WCI) in Cumberland.
The victim is an inmate in his 30s serving 50 years for assault and other charges. He was found unresponsive in his cell at about 3 p.m. in a general population housing unit. One wing of that unit has been locked down as the investigation gets underway.
Maryland State Police have been notified by DPSCS IIU and will be the primary agency in the criminal investigation.
