Western Correctional Institution To Kick Off America’s Vet Dogs Program

What: Kickoff ceremony for America’s Vet Dogs Program

Who: DPSCS Secretary Gary Maynard, America’s Vet Dogs leaders, a wounded veteran and his service dog, community leaders

When: Monday, 9/24 at 10:30 a.m.

Where: Western Correctional Institution, 13800 McMullen Hwy. (U.S. 220) Cumberland, MD

Background: Incarcerated veterans and other inmates now have puppies at WCI and will train them for America’s Vet Dogs, which in turn will give them to wounded servicepeople returning from Iraq and Afghanistan.

Three MD prisons will participate in this program initially: WCI, Md. Correctional Institution-Hagerstown, and Eastern Correctional Institution in Westover.
