Pulling Together for a Great Cause
For more than 20 years the Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services (DPSCS), through the Division of Correction, has supported Special Olympics Maryland. Our main event, a Tug-of-War, pits team against team in the ultimate pulling competition!
This year’s event, which also includes a one mile walk and 5K run, will be held on June 8th at the MD Public Safety Education and Training Center in Sykesville, MD. All law enforcement and correctional divisions are encouraged to attend. Three weight divisions, light, heavy and ladies, give tug teams a chance to represent their institution, office or unit.
See our registration pages for more details and to sign-up. Can’t participate on June 8th? No problem – purchase a Special Olympics Law Enforcement Torch Run shirt or hat to support the cause.
Past Competitions
Contributions by DPSCS through the sale of shirts/hats and our Tug-of-War event have exceeded $250,000 since we began supporting Special Olympics Maryland in the mid-1990s. We continue to grow participation, and in 2011 had a record turn-out of 28 tug teams from across the state. Will the reigning heavyweight champs from Baltimore’s Detention Center come out on top again this year??
